The Hawthorns Care Home is a purpose built, 73 bed care home with nursing, designed with three separate units, each enjoying self contained living accommodation.With a calm and tranquil atmosphere, the home is ideal for those looking for somewhere safe and comfortable to live. It is registered with the Care Quality Commission and is within easy reach of local facilities and easily accessible by road, bus or train. Experienced registered nurses and care assistants, selected for their skills, operate a 24 hour service, delivering a high standard of nursing care to suit the individual needs. An experienced Manager supervises the day to day running of the home and ensures that the care delivered encompasses social, physical, psychological and environmental needs.
The home offers spacious, well furnished lounge areas and dining rooms that provide a place for service users to relax, enjoy activities and entertain guests. All bedrooms are single occupancy with en-suite amenities, some include shower facilities. Every room is comfortable and decorated to the highest standards. Service users are encouraged to personalise their room with pictures, ornaments and if desired; pieces of their own furniture. The home also boasts beautiful landscaped gardens with raised flower beds for those in wheelchairs. The home has been designed to specifically meet the needs of elderly service users with various levels of confusion and dementia related conditions. Set over 3 floors.
Individual care plans enable staff to continually monitor each resident's progress and general health. This is monitored by our Quality Assured procedures, which have an ongoing review, to ensure the care provisions meet the needs of the individual.
A wide range of activities to suit our residents are catered for including group and individual based interests and hobbies. Our activities organiser ensures there is a varied programme for social and leisure pursuits. Our experienced chef produces appetising, home-style food with seasonal ingredients. At The Hawthorns we endeavour to meet all cultural and personal preferences, our chef is also happy to incorporate service user's favourite dishes into the menu.
A hairdressing salon, managed by a professional hairdresser is available weekly. All areas of the home have disabled access. The Hawthorns also has the facilities to offer sensory based activities to service users.
Visitors are welcome at any time, to our "home from home". Meals can be taken in one of the dining rooms or in the privacy of their own room. Laundry services are provided by our housekeeping team.

Residents and staff at The Hawthorns Care Home enjoyed the Mad Hatter tea party where we supported the charity Action Medical Research for Children. We had scones with cream and jam, fresh strawberries, hot and cold drinks and lots of great fun, including a higher and lower card game with a quiz. We moved into an enchanted world of Alice In Wonderland and enjoyed time being together. Thank you to everyone who supported us that day...

Residents and staff from The Hawthorns Care Home enjoyed the outing to Solent Sky Museum, it showcases the international importance of aviation history in Southampton and Solent area. The Solent region gave birth to the Spitfire, as well as being the home of the Imperial Airways flying boats. This trip bring so many memories to residents and was lovely to hear all the stories from years ago...

The Hawthorns Care Home celebrated the Royal Wedding with a street Party on 19th May. We had entertainment provided by "Delvis". Residents, families and staff enjoyed dancing and singing to love songs and royal reminiscence, along side this we had cakes and drinks for all, glass of prosecco with strawberries and a lovely buffet lunch. During the raffle we raised an amazing £71 for residents funds. Thank you dear staff and relatives, the street party would not have been that successful if we did not have your help...

Sensory stimulation has the ability to provide enjoyment, minimise sensory withdrawal, reduce distress and anxiety and maintain feelings of self-worth for people living with dementia. Sensory stimulation is a key for improving the quality of life of residents.

Earlier this month on Easter Monday Hawthorns Care Home had lots of Easter fun. They enjoyed an Easter Karaoke, raffle and Easter egg game, lovely cakes and buffet. During Easter week they had this cute little duckling which hatched just before Easter to join them for all activities.

Exercises at The Hawthorns Care Home with Dinky Dancers. We are taking part in a project about linking communities and generation. Pre-school children age 2-4 coming to our home to encourage the residents in exercises. Activities involve action songs, instruments, movement and dance, often using equipment such as balls, ribbons, bean bags and parachute.

The Hawthorns Care Home held a memorial service for families and friends of people who have passed away. The service was held by Vicar Miles Newton from St Marks church. The Hawthorns Care Home Annual summer fete was a big success this year. The home managed to raised £595 for residents funds. The weather was on our side as it was a lovely sunny day. We enjoyed the music played by Gary Mathews, residents and staff dancing and having fun. Lots of food and tropical drinks. Residents and staff at the Hawthorns Care Home had this amazing opportunity to watch the "incredible eggs" hatch. They had 7 chicks out of 8 eggs, which is a good number. They looked after them for 10 days, residents loved to give them a cuddle, watch them play and growing.

The Hawthorns Care Home held a few activities to celebrate Valentines. The residents enjoyed making heart decoration to put in the lounge rooms with flower arrangement activity. They also made heart shaped biscuits and cakes. We also had a karaoke with chocolate fountain and fruit kebabs.

The Hawthorns Care Home celebrated Dignity Action Day on Thursday 2nd Feb with cakes and sweets for residents, staff and relatives. They held a quiz game for staff with sweet treats to raise awareness of the importance of Dignity in Care, demonstrating that everyone in the community has a role to play in treating everyone with dignity. Residents wrote on little cards their Dignity wishes and they put them on a "Dignitree".

Residents at the Hawthorns Care Home, Woolston, Southampton went on a lovely bus trip to Garson Garden Centre to celebrate Christmas time. We had the opportunity to feed the reindeers, visit the Aquarium and looked around Christmas decorations. We all enjoyed the selection of hot drinks and cakes.

Residents and Staff at the Hawthorns Care Home went for a bus trip to the Sea City Museum which tells the story of how people from the City of Southampton had a historic connection with the Titanic and the Sea .
We really enjoyed the trip and nice cup of tea and coffee on the way back.

The Hawthorns Care Home had a fun filled fete day on Sept 3rd that was “Western Themed”, many staff and visitors dressed up as cowboys, Indians and saloon girls! We had entertainment from Gary Matthews, several stalls including the “stocks”, raffle, cakes, bottle tombola. We raised £433.00 for the residents fund and fun was had by all.

The creature teachers visited The Hawthorns Care Home once again with they amazing animals . Residents had the opportunity to stroke animals such as ferret, tortoise, lizard, barn owl and snake . Everyone who participate the activity really enjoyed the time.

Our lovely Residents, relatives and staff from the Hawthorns Care Home had this great opportunity to take part in a boat trip around Southampton waters with Alison Macgregor and their wonderful Volunteers. We spend an amazing 2 hours on the boat looking at Queen Elizabeth and checking out the docks.
Thank you to Solent Dolphin charity for that brilliant time .

The Hawthorns Care Home celebrated Queen Elizabeths 90th Birthday with a garden party, local entertainment was provided together with a buffet lunch, the weather was brilliant and residents, relatives and staff had a brilliant day. We raised a £198.38 from the raffle, guess the cake and donations.

The Hawthorns Care Home have been busy celebrating Easter with having a concert with Cosmic Sparkle entertainment giving a lovely sing a long for staff and residents. We also had an easter bonnet parade where residents made their own bonnets, and also the residents made their own easter nest cakes. We raised over £160 with the easter raffle for the resident fund.
