'Our Mum was 87 when after a stay in hospital following a fall, decided she could no longer sustain living on her own at home and time was to go into a care home. My sisters and I were faced with a steep learning curve like many of our generation. She is neither in the "nursing" or "dementia" categories, but pure "residential" i.e. frail but mentally alert. We quickly dismissed the old country house conversions as their room facilities were just not consistent or good enough and too quiet, then there were the "smelly/chaotic" homes. When we walked round Hawthorns it was like property search, "you know" its the right one. Three things rang out - the rooms thoughtfully furbished, the professionalism and kindness of the staff and the impeccable cleanliness and organisation of the building. Since Mum has moved in she has thrived. Staff have become her extended family and have given her confidence and security and moreover a future.'
